In a whimsical turn of events, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control has approved its first-ever unicorn license, fulfilling the heartfelt request of a local 6-year-old named Madeline.

Madeline, exhibiting a genuine passion for magical creatures, penned a handwritten letter to the department, seeking official approval to own a unicorn if she could manage to find one. Her adorable request, posted on the department’s Facebook page, expressed her desire for a unicorn in her backyard and requested an official response.

The department, commending Madeline’s dedication to “responsible pet ownership,” responded by issuing her a “preapproved unicorn license,” a delightful gesture that garnered attention on social media.

However, the fantastical license comes with certain enchanting conditions. Madeline, as the proud owner, is required to ensure her unicorn has “regular access to sunlight, moonbeams, and rainbows.” Additionally, the mythical creature must be treated to a weekly watermelon feast, its horn meticulously polished at least once a month with a soft cloth, and any adornments such as sparkles or glitter must be non-toxic and biodegradable to safeguard the unicorn’s well-being.

Considering the elusive nature of unicorns in Los Angeles, the department went above and beyond by sending Madeline a plush unicorn companion. Complete with a “permanent unicorn license” tag on its collar, the gesture adds a touch of magic to this heartwarming tale of a young girl’s dream meeting a whimsical reality.
