Anticipated to set new records, this year’s Thanksgiving travel rush is witnessing a significant influx of Niners fans heading to Seattle for the highly awaited game against their rivals, the Seahawks.
At San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) on Wednesday night, the vibrant red and gold of Niners fans stood out prominently.
Enthusiastic chants of “Woo! Niners!” echoed through the air as fans proceeded towards the security lines, many of them embarking on a short two-day trip.
Gloria W., a 49ers fan from San Jose, expressed, “We’re just in and out. We’ve got our gloves, our beanies, everything Niners.” Gloria and Doug W., departing for Seattle on Wednesday night and returning on Friday, revealed that this Thanksgiving is unique for them, with the trip being planned since the beginning of the season.
Doug W. explained, “We’re usually with our daughter, but she’s kind of down south, so we decided to just do it this year — one time. The Niners don’t usually play on Thanksgiving, so seeing this game will be special.”
They won’t be alone in their Thanksgiving celebration; they’ll be joined by their Niners family. Gloria Williams shared, “All the Niner fam is going to be out there. We’re going to have a nice Thanksgiving lunch before the game.”
Isaac E., another traveler to Seattle from SJC, has loved ones in Washington who are Seahawks fans, setting the stage for some friendly banter at the dinner table. “It’s going to be fun to talk some trash during dinner or the next day,” Espinoza said.
However, for the Niners fans to engage in such banter, their team will need to secure a victory against the Seattle Seahawks.
Thanksgiving Day will feature a trio of NFL games, with the spotlight on the evening matchup between NFC West powerhouses, the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field. This clash marks the first of two scheduled meetings between the division rivals this season. Seattle boasts a 4-1 home record in 2023, holding an overall 6-4 standing, while the 49ers are 3-2 on the road and hold a 7-3 overall record.
Scheduled for an 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff in Seattle, SportsLine consensus designates San Francisco as a seven-point favorite for this game. Additionally, the over/under, indicating the total points expected to be scored, is set at 44 in the latest 49ers vs. Seahawks odds.
Despite the challenge to the Niners, fans remain optimistic, with Doug W. stating, “It’ll be nice to hopefully have turkey on their field.”
